Never Say Never Again Sean Connery 1983 Goldeneye Minnie Driver 1995

With the launch of the eagerly awaited new James Bond film, No Time To Die, complete with two bike chase sequences we wondered which take been the ones with the all-time (and worst) motorcycle sequences – here's our choice, in reverse order…

Kawasaki Z900 The Spy Who Loved Me 1977 v2

10. Kawasaki Z900/The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

What? A Kawasaki Zed in a Bail movie? Yes, there is – but don't get also excited. The Roger Moore-era Bonds were never that corking for bikes, TSWLM, although a decent flick, is more remembered for its Lotus Esprit that turns into a submarine, and the Z900 concerned is fitted with some kind of detachable, explosive sidecar. It's used by a baddie to chase Bond in the Esprit and, as anyone who'south ridden a sidecar knows, doesn't become very far. Unfortunately, the villain's cliff death plunge would await more than realistic if information technology was washed with Lego. Still, at least it likewise features the debut of the kickoff Wet Cycle, which Moore really rides.

Yamaha XT500 For Your Eyes Only 1981 v2

9. Yamaha XT500/For Your Eyes Only (1981)

Another Moore-era Bond and, to be frank, i of his worst, not least considering the star was by then 54 and at one betoken cringingly seduces teenage character Bibi Dahl. You couldn't imagine it being allowed today. In FYEO'south defense, however, there is a half-decent cycle hunt when two villains aboard Yamaha XT500s (fitted with machine guns) pursue a skis-clad Bail down a bobsleigh run (as you do) and across a few mountains. Sadly, Italian stuntman Paolo Rigoni was killed during part of the bobsleigh sequence…

Yamaha XJ650 Turbo Never Say Never Again 1983 v2

8. Yamaha XJ650 Turbo/Never Say Never Again (1983)

Information technology's easy to dismiss NSNA. Information technology's the only 'non-official' Bond, a remake, finer, of Thunderball; then  53-year-old Sean Connery wears a toupĂ© and it'southward got Rowan Atkinson in it, ferchrissakes, so it's not difficult to imagine where he got his Johnny English idea from. But it's also the only Bond so far in which our hero rides an official, Q-branch supplied, gadget-lavished motorcycle, a mildly disguised Yam XJ650T (supposedly, nosotros suspect a trail bicycle was nether the fairing) consummate with knobblies and rocket launchers. Bond, meanwhile, wears a Tux and '80s Nava polycarbonate hat. Remember them?

Cagiva W16 600 Goldeneye 1995 v2

seven. Cagiva W16 600/Goldeneye (1995)

The W16 surely ranks towards the meridian of all the bikes yous'd never wait to run into in a Bail flick, but the Italian trailie stars in the opening sequence of Pierce Brosnan'south debut every bit Bond, in Goldeneye. In information technology, Bond nabs the supposedly Red Regular army spec Cagiva and uses it to chase later a pilot-less Cessna as he bids to escape a Russian armed forces facility while existence chased by the usual baddies. The stunt work, riding the cycle over a cliff, was by French stunt rider Jacques Malnuit.

BSA Lightning 650 Thunderball 1965 v2

6. BSA Lightning 650/Thunderball (1965)

An oldie but a goodie, even though the bike sequence is fairly brief. Leather clad baddie Fiona Volpe (played, mostly, by Luciana Paluzzi) rides a gold faired BSA A65 Lightning 650 afterward some dastardly assassins before promptly dispatching them with some bike mounted rockets. Go girl. She then disposes of the bicycle in a nearby lake. In truth the riding was washed at a specially 'dressed' Silverstone and by late, diminuitive 1960s Brit GP racer Pecker Ivy, who reportedly wore a wig.

BMW R1200C Tomorrow Never Dies 1997 v2

5. BMW R1200C/Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

Possibly the oddest choice of Bond bike e'er which came about simply because BMW were 'vehicle partners' in the motion-picture show (remember the 750 and Z8 cars used, likewise?), the cruiser 1200C was just about to come out and then some genius decided to give Bond a cream coloured one your Gran would choose to ride. That said, the bike stunts, including a leap, ii-upwards, over a helicopter, and which were done by French stunt legend Jean-Pierre Goy, are among the best in any Bond.

Montesa Cota 4RT Quantum of Solace 2008

4. Montesa Cota 4RT/Quantum of Solace (2008)

You lot'd probably forgotten after all the hullabaloo surrounding the rooftop bike chase in Skyfall, merely bikes, or, more specifically, A wheel (a inconspicuous Montesa Cota 4RT trials automobile fitted with unlike tank and seat), also stars briefly in the preceding Breakthrough of Solace when Bail (Daniel Craig) pursues 'Camille' (Olga Kurylenko) through the streets of Port-au-Prince, Haiti culminating in an impressive bike spring into a boat. The bike-to-bike filming, incidentally, was done by eleven-times British MX champion-turned-stuntman/camerabike passenger Rob Herring, who's also worked extensively in the Mission:Impossible series, among others.

Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro No Time To Die 2021

3. Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro/No Fourth dimension To Die (2021)

Zooming right up to the present day with the first of non one, only two Triumphs. The British marque signed up to become official vehicle partners (along with Jaguar Land Rover) for No Time To Die, two major sequences required two different bikes and, afterwards stunt coordinator Lee Morrison and director Cary Fukunaga became interested in Triumph'south special Tramontana Tiger-based rally racer, the Hinckley marque suggested the then, still acme surreptitious, prototype Tiger 900 Rally Pro. Ridden during a stunt sequence in Norway, Morrison was impressed, too: "We spent a long time of the Tiger and information technology is so well balanced," he said. "I honestly think it's 1 of the all-time bikes I've ever ridden." Triumph accept simply released a limited edition 'Bail Edition' of the bike you can purchase – for £sixteen,500

Honda CRF250R Skyfall 2012

ii. Honda CRF250R/Skyfall (2012)

Until this week'southward release of NTTD, 2012's Skyfall had been universally acclaimed every bit possibly the all-time Bail flick ever. It also had, until now at least, the best motorcycle sequence. In the opening scene Bail (Daniel Craig) chases baddie Patrice (Ola Rapace) across the rooftops of Istanbul, both aboard supposedly constabulary Honda CRF250Rs. Stunt star Robbie Maddison did most of the riding although Craig did some, with Herring again riding the camera bike.

Triumph 1200 Scrambler XE No Time To Die 2021

1. Triumph 1200 Scrambler XE/No Time To Dice (2021)

Yes, nosotros've saved the best (and near recent) 'til last – only believe united states, it'south deserving. Lee Morrison'south stunt team knew they wanted to use the Scrambler 1200 XE from the outset when the tie-up with Triumph took place and the big, more off-road version of Hinckley'southward retro Scrambler gets a helluva work out. It's first used in the easily of baddie Primo, and then, even more impressively, past Craig's Bond himself in the Italian walled city of Matera culminating in a leap (every bit seen in the trailer) over a 45-pes, most vertical stone wall which was actually done past British 4 times ex-globe enduro champion Paul Edmondson. Again, Triumph issued a limited edition (but 250) 'Bond Edition' version of the bike, this time in March 2020, which instantly sold out.
